Arkansas Food Hall of Fame Mural, 2022

exterior paint

I was very fortunate to be one of the many artists selected to work on the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame “Great State of the Plate” mural located in the Pocket Park in downtown Little Rock.

I was chosen to prep the wall and paint the AR Food Hall of Fame logo. The other artist selected will be assigned a year and paint the winning restaurant and dish for that year, starting with 2017. The plan is to add a new dish and restaurant to the mural each coming year. It’s a great idea to celebrate Arkansas’ local food proprietors as well as it’s local artists. I’m so glad to have been a part of this project.

The Food Hall of Fame logo demanded some precise details with the lettering so I made use of a stencil I made and cut out by hand. The rough texture of the wall would make it impossible to get clean lines with the stencil but it helped me get the meat of the lettering where it needed to be. I then went in with a finer brush to clean up the lines and create crisp letters. I was especially thrilled with how well the AR Heritage logo came out. It was the biggest challenge because it was the smallest element.
