Look Up: Bernice Garden Painted Window, 2019

watercolor, colored pencil, gold leaf, antique window

I was honored to be chosen to participate in The Bernice Garden’s ‘Eyes Are the Windows to the Soul’ art show. I was given an antique window, the theme, and the freedom to do with it as I please.

I coated the glass of the window with Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground which creates an absorbent surface similar to cold press watercolor paper. It was a bit tricky as the paint would reactivate a bit more than it would on traditional paper but I managed to work with it.

As we seek what is beautiful we must remember that what is of this earth is only temporary. No matter how lovely, it will not last, and like the fair magnolia, it will be here today and withered tomorrow. When we look up to God we find a beauty that is truly eternal and will never fade.
